Imparting knowledge on sandwich construction to German colleges

An initial positive result

Sandwich construction - or, to be more precise, knowledge of sandwich construction - is increasingly being imparted to German colleges and educational establishments. The initiative by GALILEO - Kreatives Bauen mit Sandwich - was started in spring 2000 and is showing positive results after just the first year.

Professors and students in German colleges and universities responded positively in every respect to the offer of imparting knowledge on sandwich construction. This readiness to co-operate resulted in a series of interesting lectures, which were generally also attended by a large number of students.

Individual focuses possible for different faculties

Depending on the college or university and the focus of the respective faculty, GALILEO - Kreatives Bauen mit Sandwich responds to the wishes of the chair and increases the depth of information on the required topics. So, for example, for faculties such as civil engineering or structural steel engineering, issues such as statics and structural design can be dealt with, while for students focusing on architecture, design possibilities and visual criteria may be to the fore.

Quick and problem-free organisation

The organisational preparations for these lectures/presentations are generally quick and problem-free. After a few preliminary telephone discussions with the holder of the chair, the desired theme focuses, the date of the event and the location are defined with the help of the lecture manuscript. GALILEO - Kreatives Bauen mit Sandwich - assists the announcement of the event plenty of time in advance with large posters.

Graphic communication of knowledge

GALILEO - Kreatives Bauen mit Sandwich places great value on imparting knowledge as vividly and graphically as possible when presenting lectures to German colleges and universities. This applies both with regard to the selection of speakers, who have many years of experience in this area, and the lecture technique used. No special precautions need to be taken by the college, as the necessary technical equipment is provided by GALILEO - Kreatives Bauen mit Sandwich. Exhibits in the original size and tests on sandwich elements complete the practice-oriented lecture.

Product-neutral knowledge

A further important criterion is product neutrality. The properties of sandwich construction as a building system are dealt with, not the properties of particular brand products.

Valuable informational literature for colleges and universities

To reinforce the presentation, GALILEO - Kreatives Bauen mit Sandwich provides the students and the faculty with supplementary technical information in a product-neutral form. There is also a valuable present for the library of the respective college: "Die Sandwichbauweise" by Rolf Koschade, published by Ernst & Sohn 2000, the first reference book in the world to explain sandwich construction in detail, over approx. 400 pages.

Consistently positive responses

The positive responses by professors and students clearly show that this initiative for imparting knowledge by GALILEO - Kreatives Bauen mit Sandwich - has fallen on fertile ground. The lectures have been followed by frequent requests to repeat the presentation the next semester.
